Black teen receives $900K, apology in settlement with police over wrongful arrest | SmartNews
The story released 2/24/2022 by The Grio gives way as to why young men of color are so fearful of interaction with law enforcement. One can only imagine the nightmare of being in such a position. As you read this story, please consider supporting organization such as ours who are to help to help pick up the broken pieces and build young men up and restore them in their perspective place in society. Money doesn't make the emotional trauma go away, Money doesn't give you the time back, Money doesn't change the stigma of a criminal record any easier.

Vanderbilt Prison Project Presents: Reimagining Reintegration

1/3/2022

Comments

This Saturday, December 4 from 3 PM to 4:30 PM in Benton Chapel on Vanderbilt's campus, Vanderbilt Prison Project is hosting an event titled "Reimagining Reintegration". Many of those receiving this email have been crucial in bringing this event to fruition. We have linked our Eventbrite RSVP link below, as well as the Zoom link for the event if yourself or other representatives of your organization are only able to attend virtually. The space holds up to 380 people, so please feel free to forward the Eventbrite link to others in your network in order to make this event as impactful as possible. For those who have been waiting for the official RSVP- we'd like to apologize for the wait & thank you for your patience. Originally, we had planned that all representatives of organizations that aid in the re-entry process in Nashville would have spots automatically reserved and thus didn't need to register using the Eventbrite, but we understand that everyone would like to know they have a ticket reserved. Your attendance is very important to us & we appreciate your registration!

Our State Of the Union

During COVID-19, so many things have transpired for our nation. So many people have been affected by this virus. Even our projects, were placed on hold for a period of time. With that being said we are returning with a vengeance to offer support and stability to those who still have to keep maintaining their way of life, with court ordered mandates to have stable housing and employment to prevent violations of any kind.  We would also like to address, the issue of police brutality and systemic racism. Our goal is to model the proper behavior and ensure our company, our staff, our board of directors, our participants will not perpetuate the cycle.

Treat people the way you want to be treated, learn to respect others, that first begins with ones morality monitor. Generations are changing and have changed on so many levels. We can be more together than apart. We have the POWER to invoke change! We have the POWER to push the legislative process! We have the POWER to speak with conviction and authority by staying on task, being methodical, strategic, and  knowledgeable about activism.

Let this time, be a lesson to us all to put a STOP to the injustices that have plagues brown and black people for so many years. We can do it together! Continue to practice social distancing and proper hand washing to keep you safe as well as others.

what a christmas present........

12/22/2019

As I recall, for many years, the family holidays were NEVER the same. We simply adjusted to the situation to maintain the discomfort. Since Andrew's release on 7.23.19, we have marked the 23rd as a new anniversary and milestone for our family. With that being said, this Christmas will be memorable, to so many people in our family as well as those who have supported Andrew during his time away.
So I thought I would interview him to really gather his perspective on being released to date, so here goes.

Interviewer: How does it feel to be experiencing holidays with your family?
Mr. Ewing: It feels surreal like a dream, but I am grateful and always feel a sense of gratitude for all things positive in my life.

Interviewer: What has been the single most memorable part of being released?
Mr. Ewing: Seeing how far in advance technology has come. It's amazing to see and know phones can record what you say into a text message, speaking into a remote for the TV and seeing that on the screen, or seeing car headlights , sitting in traffic and even hearing the train go by. So basically, seeing LIFE happening in REAL time. No bars, No cells, No Counts, No state issued clothing....you know.

Interviewer: How have you been emotionally from release to now working and becoming acclimated to society?
Mr. Ewing: I have managed much better than others because I have a VERY strong support system and it makes a difference. My sisters are my ROCK along with my parents! My sisters are very resourceful and intelligent. Both are entrepreneurs and my baby sister is a Corporate Trainer for a major Supply Chain Distribution Center and often trains me on any and everything necessary to function in society. My middle sister, makes sure all things relating to processes and protection is her area...they "LOVE" me unconditionally and makes sure I am proper in every way.

Interviewer: What advice or counsel would you offer to others who will soon be released from incarceration?
Mr. Ewing: Stay grounded, Allow people to assist you, Develop a plan and work the plan to make sure you are obtaining results. Remove yourself from toxic environments and KNOW your WORTH!

Thanksgiving 2019 best ever!

It has taken some time to recall all the wonderful events and feelings  of what Andrew Ewing experienced due to his twenty five year long incarceration for a crime he did not commit. After many years of being away from his family, the time FINALLY came on Thanksgiving 2019.  This was a carefully coordinated visit to ensure, his mother would NEVER forget this holiday.

Videos were done and will be part of the ongoing documentary for Andrew's life story.
